Potable Water
Contaminated water can kill you in about a week. Since you can’t carry tons of water, you must be able to clean it as you need it. Remember if there is no electricity there is no water pressure, so that reverse osmosis unit under your sink or the electric powered units that purify water are useless.

Feel safe? I didn’t! Now I have food that will store for 25 years or more for my family. It is like “MONEY IN THE BANK”. Think about it, you will be willing to pay anything for food when it is not around. It’s very cheap to get now, actually costs less per meal in today’s money. It will be worth more than gold later.
Family Emergency Food Supply
Don’t procrastinate. It may cost you everything if you wait. And with an angry desperate mob, you may pay with your life. Again, do not mess around on this, get your food now! I will not be sticking my neck out looking for food in a crisis and you will not need to either. How much should you get? All you can afford to today. If you can’t afford a lot, then get a 3 month supply now. You can always add to it later when you have the funds. This is real food and tastes like real food. Our family just had to check it out and it is great.
If you have taken care of these 2 things, you are ahead of 99% of the population…Really! It is downhill from here. There are several other needs that you will need to address, but the order is debatable. Just look over the following items and address them as needed.
- Survival Garden Seeds
– properly stored and ready to feed your family when you really need it.
- Communications
– Keep your cool by knowing what is happening. Stress levels go way up when people do not know what is happening. Make sure you can pick up shortwave. It does not depend on satellites to work and there world is covered with operators who are at the ready to keep information moving.
- Weapons – Ammo – Protect Your Family! Buy the weapon from private owners now. Ammo can be purchased wherever you can find it. Pay Cash. No paper trail.
- Hydrogen Peroxide – Yes, the cheap stuff in the brown bottle. It does everything and it’s safer to use – keep extra bottles on hand.
- Backup Power – Very expensive, but getting enough to run smaller appliances or electronics can be more affordable.
- Solar – Pay attention to me on this I built the website solarenergy.com years ago before the company sold. Most people are thinking of the blue solar electric panels right now. Do not start here, it is expensive!
There are 2 areas that you SHOULD look at though…Solar Thermal and Solar Cooking. Solar Thermal means heating water. More on that in a minute. First, the sun can boil water in minutes when you concentrate the sun’s energy into a solar oven. There are many designs that you can make yourself for just a few dollars or buy a commercially made oven. Just learning how to build or make one now is a great idea.
OK, Solar Thermal, this brings to mind a website we built years ago called rednecksolar.com as a spoof to solarenergy.com. We used to get together and ROFL in discussing made up products. We came up with many hilarious solar ideas, but in reality there were some ideas that would actually work. One idea was called “hose on the roof” LOL Of course it would make hot water. Another idea was called “Barrel on a pole” This one is actually used in many third world countries. On a mission’s trip in Haiti I bathed using hot water warmed by a black barrel on the roof. It felt great after 4 days without a bath. Now if you want a solar water heater for your house, it will run over $3000. But here is why you would not use the solar electric panels to run your water heater. It would cost over $20,000 in solar electric panels to power a regular water heater. So spend $3,000-4,000 to do it using solar thermal instead and save $17,000. No one installs solar electric until the load has been reduced as much as possible using solar thermal, low watt lighting, low energy appliances etc. Solar Electric is Very Expensive, so you want as little as possible. You did not know that huh?
- Animals – Chickens provide eggs and meat if they do not give you eggs. Large dogs provide protection. Goats provide milk which is actually better for you than cows milk. Think about it, a cow’s milk is designed to feed an baby weighing 100 or more pounds. Ever wonder why kids are always going to the ear, eye and throat doctor….cows milk! Our kids are rarely sick and they have probably only had cows mild a dozen times in their life. Living around woods provide game to hunt. You may want a 22 to hunt small game. If you have to be quiet and not heard, then a Compound bow or a Crossbow will get you food without letting everyone around know. Learn how to fish local waters. Hire a guide if needed now and learn from them. They know how to catch the local fish and then you will know their secrets.
- Tools – Tools that do not require electricity are preferred in a crisis. Gardening, carpentry etc. Take a look around and see if you need to buy replacement parts for items that wear out often and learn how to install now before something bad happens.
